404 Clothes For the Modest Tween

The Modest Tween

I’ve decided to start a new spot on my blog– THE MODEST TWEEN.

I’m sure I’m not the only mom out there struggling with finding clothes that are cute, affordable, age appropriate and modest for my tween.

She’s sometimes too old for the kids stores and the juniors clothes are still a little ill-fitting and often way too hootchie for my taste!

SO, I thought I’d start posting some of Scarlet’s fun clothes and where we get them and the secrets we use to make them hip and stylish and above all– modest.

So today’s tip of the day is from the store ABERCROMBIE– Abercrombie is the tween store of Abercrombie and Fitch.

Their sizes are ridiculously small!

RIDICULOUSLY!!!

For example, yesterday I bought my 4 year old a sweater there!

Oh, and to make it even crazier– I bought him a MEDIUM!!!

Seriously, stupid.

It makes me want to not shop there because their “size message” is absurd– BUT their clothes are soooo stinking awesome. sigh

I’m weak.

Oh and another thing about the store– the prices are CRAZY EXPENSIVE.

I’m not painting a very pretty picture of this store, am I?!?!?!

Okay, but this is where my tip comes in.

ABERCROMBIE SALES ARE AWESOME!!!

And stuff is always on sale.

I NEVER buy anything that isn’t on sale.

I walk straight to the back of the store past all the fab clothes that aren’t on sale (I don’t even look– too painful) to the back room where EVERYTHING is on sale!

Mostly I buy at 40% off.

Often 50-60%.

Also, if you aren’t by an Abercrombie– sign up for their emails.

They are always offering free shipping and their online sales are awesome too.

I hope you like this new feature– THE MODEST TWEEN– I’m excited to bring it to you!

I have an idea for a new segment on your site. “Modest clothes for the chubby husband” What do you think?

While Riley is 8, I can’t stand the hoochie clothing offerred at her age…I worry as she gets older it will just get harder. I’m thrilled you are doing this feature!

I applaud this Gillian!! it’s so disheartening to see the hooch mama clothes for my 4 yr old granddaughter and don’t even get me started on the size messages! And you have such great taste this will be fun!

Thank- you, Thank-you, Thank-you……..It is sooooo hard to shop, between the prices, styles, and lack of choices, there has to be a solution……you are it, I’ll check your blog out even more now.

It is great that you care about modesty. So many parents have dropped the ball in this area. One thing though….Abercrombie and Fitch is all about controversy….not modesty. In fact….it is an oxymoron for abercrombie and fitch and modesty to appear in the same post. Google abercrombie…..you will never associate them with modesty again.

Ha ha ha, Dan’s comment! I didn’t realize he had a problem with modesty…oh wait, I just remembered the beach house this summer. Nevermind :)

Oh, clothes shopping gets harder as they get older. Considering Zoe has always looked older than she is and has always been twice the size of kids her age shopping for my 12 yr old is not fun. At almost 5’8″, size women’s 10 finding things that aren’t hoochie and are “in style” is nearly impossible.

I love the idea of a modest tween feature! I have a 10 year old that is a nightmare to find clothes for. She is super skinny and tall (clearly a gift from my husband) and trying to find appropriate stuff is a HUGE challenge. Luckily, she has no interest in “sassy” clothes.
